Hello everyone,

My name is Fahad. Im from Kuwait, a country where the land is mostly desert. Cold short winters with little rain, long hot summer with no rain whatsoever. I raise sheep, the local breed here is called Naimi breed. Naimi is a hardy desert adapted sheep breed that can withstand desert conditions. Its well known for its quality meat and good yield. In Kuwait, it is sold for good buck, around 500$ for a well finished lamb. As desert ranchers in Kuwait, we depend 90% on imported feed. Barley is my main feed and most dominant in my TMR as it is subsidised by the government. It is sold for 200$ / ton. Believe it ir not, barley grain is cheaper than both straw and hay in kuwait. Thats why i use more grain than forage in my TMR, yet not without any complications.

I Can upload pics or vids of my ranch if any of you likes.

I hope i can learn from you guys

Thanks
Later

Nice animals. But look at the acres of sand 😱. I'd say no parasite problems but, could be wrong.

That's rare in USA. And handling for your livestock is totally different! How do you handle watering & facilities for water? Do you feed any roughage? What an adjustment that is. No rain for months? Wow. Yes, we're worlds apart..☺️

I'm so used to grass & trees 🤣 so are my goats

Nice looking goats !! You should see our local goat breed. Yes parasites pressure in the desert is far less than in rainy regions, but its not zero pressure. I do use Ivermectin from time to time when I suspect that i have parasites problem. We use water tanks in our desert ranch. Water is trasnported from water filling station to the ranch by water tankers. Land cost nothing. As for roughage, Im feeding my herd both cheakpea straw and groundnut haulms at 15% each of the TMR, barley grain at 65%, soybean meal at 5%. I will add premix, bicarb, limestone, MgO, and salt on top of this. Straw and hay in Kuwait are very expensive. I try to feed my herd very little straw and hay while increasing barley share. I know what Im doing is not perfect , but one got to adjust.
