Hey everyone, Cody here from Western PA.

I run a registered Angus operation, we're running about 21 cows right now. This spring we had a solid calving season and we're concentrating some Coleman Donna 714 genetics that I'm really excited about.

Outside of cattle I've had chickens my whole life (currently Silkies and Isa Browns, I'm on BYC too), we have a Golden Retriever, and two kids. By day I'm a voice network engineer, so the farm is the evening and weekend shift.

Looking forward to being part of this community. Always happy to talk cattle, pasture, or just swap stories about the chaos.

Welcome to the forum from deep east Texas. I raise Katahdin sheep on 25 acres, retired, and slowly transforming this piece of old run down former 3 generation cattle ranch to sheep and goat fencing. One more field to go and it's the biggest one.

Do you have feral hogs? They are an epidemic here. Hogs are trapped, shot, some butchered for the meat, the big boars left to rot or buzzard bait.

@farmerjan and her son run a cattle operation in Virginia. Prices for cattle have been very good, and have made prices for lambs go up too. That's good for me!

Feel free to post lots of pictures. We love pictures. Do you raise any of the red Angus? I read some articles where the red Angus don't suffer from the heat as much as the black Angus do. (must be a DUH moment). So there might be a switch over gaining popularity. But for now the joke is that we all know black hair tastes better than any other color.

Appreciate the greeting! I’m currently running a Black Angus operation no reds, I don't like how the red ones look but those are fighting words to some people. I’ve heard the same about the Red Angus and heat tolerance, but up here in Pennsylvania, the black hides aren't as much of a liability as they’d be further south.

We don't have hogs here but I've seen them when visiting people down south and I hope we never get them.

Managing 25 acres of sheep and goats sounds like a lot of fencing work good luck on that last big field! Are sheep harder to keep in? My little sheep sized calves seem to always be escaping.

I've got a photo of part of my herd (the holstein hitched a ride home from an auction and never left).

Holsteins are good milkers.😂 The various hide colors amuse me to the extent it's all beef...like shell color on eggs, insides the same. BUT some colored breeds do have a difference in the actual beef, so I can see favoritism. But I love the rolling hill in that picture 😀

Goats here.... My cattle days are way in the past.

Welcome to the forum. We're happy you've joined us.
Love the picture. Beautiful herd and area. What do you do with your holstein? I can't tell if it's a steer or heifer.

Angus are easy to spot, no matter the color. Blocky body with little teddy bear ears. I have to say I like the black ones best. One thing we got in Texas is plenty of heat! LOL

I use sheep and goat wire, 4”x4” x 48” woven wire. I never have a problem keeping the sheep in. It keeps the sheep in and the feral hogs out.
