Hi everyone :)
I'm new to raising animals.
I got 2 pigs in August. 1 gilt and one castrated male (someone told me that they're called steers). We added another male (half brother/cousin) Born a month and a half later. The gilt has since made it to the freezer.

I also have 4 buckeye hens and a rooster.

Loving raising my own food. I'm sure I'll expand my endeavors sooner rather than later :)

Welcome to the forum, you will like it here. A castrated bull is called a steer. A castrated male pig is called a barrow. Have you had any meals from your gilt yet? We raise pigs for the freezer and love that home grown pork!

Put your location in your avatar, we'll never remember the title of this post! ;)

Greetings and welcome. I wanted to start out with a pig here, but the pig had other ideas... Have yet to replace it yet but have every intention of it come spring. Browse around and make yourself at home! Glad to have you with us. :)

Hello and welcome! We are just over in Langley, BC to your west....not too far at all! We raise cattle, chickens and the odd pig and sheep. You are braver than I for raising pigs through winter!
