So our tam piglets are going to be going to their new homes soon. They reside with their mom and dad in a large pig pen. What is the best way to catch the little ones when it comes time to send them to their new homes?

Hours and hours of laughing and cursing. ;)

What are their temperaments like? Do they come to humans at all? Maybe treats? Herd them into a narrowing chute?

hahaha!!! You guys are cracking me up! I thought there would be a specific answer but instead I get creative ideas. I like it. The piggie chute and feeding them in the crate are probably my favorites. I'm gonna try the crate thing tomorrow and see how that goes. Thanks!!!

Grab them by the rear leg and lift fast. Have a dog crate or small sturdy pen ready. We generally fill a feed pan then act quick.

well this is an interesting thread...I am going to go catch myself 3 piglets in the mud tomorrow with mommy pig in the pen (I have never done this so it will be an interesting experience and another notch on the hobby farming belt)...we should all have the brownie/scouts badges for this backyard herd stuff - lol!

I think the strategy we are taking is the dog crate and the grab and slam routine...good tip Pattysh...I'll be lifting quick!

...hope it works and it doesn't take hours and hours of laughing and cursing...;)

If you guys think pigs are hard, TRY SHEEP!!! :lau
LOL, One thing at a time. We can't all have a zoo's worth of animals, whitemountainsranch! ;)

Careful with the leg lifting. My neighbor dislocated one of his piglets legs doing that :( The box/crate is a great way to do it, if they cooperate! General rule of thumb is they will do the exact opposite of what you want. :D
