Ridin' The Range
I got home from work on Tuesday night and noticed the field across the road was cut for hay. I got home on Thursday night and saw square bales and round bales in the field and the owner was there with a trailer-full of hay. I asked him if he was selling it and he said that he could. There was a guy that was supposed to be coming for 100 bales but that he cut extra. I asked if I could get 15 more bales and he said $2 a bale. Mind you that this is beautiful hay that was planted a couple of years ago after the field was plowed down to nothing and reseeded. My hubby got home and we loaded up the 15 bales even though he was in his back field baling more. There was some hay left after we got my 15 and the other guy got his 100. At that point I was up to 46 bales to last me a year for 4 Nigerians. I got home Friday and there were 9 more bales sitting in my driveway. I called him up to let him know I had already gotten my 15 bales. His wife called back and said, well you didn't pick up the rest of those bales in the field and we already hauled the rest of the trailer load to the barn. I told her that I only paid for 15 bales so that is all we took. She told me to keep those last 9. I offered to pay for them and she wouldn't let me. So I got 24 bales of beautiful hay for $30. They are the best people!!! Just had to share, LOL. Needless to say that my hay/feed/tool shed is slammed from loft to floor. LOL
I paid $3 a bale for hay last year from a different neighbor and it wasn't nearly as nice. I can't tell you how many times I have ripped my hands open on that stuff from blackberry bushes mixed in it either. I am going to "preorder" my hay from the man that owns all the land across from us for next year too. If someone treats me well, I will continue giving them my business.
