My 7 week old goat Kevin refuses to be a normal goat and insists on being a house goat. My 2 small dogs were doing fine with him up until today when my chiweenie became possessive over some table scraps that were being fed to her. Kevin went over to sniff what she had and she bit him pretty hard on the nose causing not only the top part to bleed but an actual nose bleed as well. I wet a rag and got most of the blood up and calmed him down but I don't really know what to do now. Should I try to get him in to the vet or just wait to see what happens? He is my first goat so I'm not sure how "sturdy" they are and if injuries like this are something to worry about. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Maybe put some triple antibiotic ointment on it. Could you post a pic? That is probably the best way to determine the course of treatment.

I see you are new here, Welcome! :welcome

I know what you mean about a house goat..... Have had a few of those  :love

Thanks! And I will as soon as I get back to the house. But his nose is black so it's going to be slightly hard to see. Thanks for your reply!

You don't stitch a bite due to the increased chance of infection...needing stitches would be my only reasoning for taking him to the vet. So personally I wouldn't run off to the vet, but that's jmo.

Rinse out with fresh water or saline spray. I agree with putting triple antibiotic ointment on it. If it's gaping any you could add an injectible antibiotic such as LA200 for a full course if you're worried. If you decide to use antibiotics don't short change it, do the full course and full dose.

Thanks so much! Kevin wouldn't hold still for pictures of his nose to the two I have aren't the best. From what I can see it looks more like a small scratch but there is some slight swelling by the bite(by the first white dot) but he seems to be ok he greeted me like normal.
