On Saturday morning when I let the dog out, this is what greeted me...

Just waiting in the Pine tree over the chicken coop (do you see them?)

Here they are close up.

I am glad my girls are all secure! These hawks are not afraid of humans or dogs. They just sit from their
perch in the Pine tree and watch us.

Yep, we've got three different kinds of hawks here in Oklahoma.

We lost some banties to them last year.

Now we let the ragweed grow up in the chicken yard, which gives them some cover. We also have a big wild plum thicket that the like to hang out in.....

We haven't lost any chickens this year, fingers crossed.

It's against the law to shoot them, they are a protected species.

We even have a redtail hawk that come and visit my backyard. Along with a falcon. They love to eat the squirrels and morning doves. Find little body parts sometimes.

That's why we have to make sure the top on our outdoor rabbit enclosure is tight. Though I don't leave my bunnies unsupervised, this hawk and falcon are fast and could easily snap up one of my bunnies. I've seen them do it to a baby squirrel.

Well I guess they have to eat too! But I don't have any chickens that I'm feeding and taking care of.

I'm glad your chickens are secure! I love watching hawks, but once they discover and easy meal, they tend to return.
