leaky water bottles?

When I fill my bottles, I screw on the lid tight (there is a rubber washer to help the seal). Then I flip them upside down, squeeze hard. Then, still squeezing, I flip them back and hang them on the cage. The vacuum will stay until the bottle is flipped again or it runs out of water.

Interesting, will try that.

I like those but the shipping is a bit much. $8 min shipping? Better need more than one water bottle. It's almost like the $9 shipping for a $0.55 trim end cap I want for my horse trailer. Just not gonna happen.

Well, Bass Equipment's shipping minimum is more, being $10.50, and others are even higher. Total shipping for my last order would have been $22.50+ from Bass and the like, but it was $19 from MJ. MJ's shipping is actually more reasonable than most others for me.

Ship fees from almost any supplier on just about any onesie or twosie purchase would usually mean taking a hit, but not always. I do normally purchase a minimum of 5-10 of each item, and most of their items at MJ are 1/2 the cost or less of purchasing locally for me and they also carry some items others do not. Even if I wanted to order, say, only 3 feeders, paying the ship fee saves me $16, and so forth.

Bass has a minimum now? I'll have to look at that. It's been awhile since I ordered from them and I know I didn't pay that much for shipping. My total was under $10. I guess inflation is getting everyone.

Some of those just seem to have more issues than others. :/ I like the bottles that have the brass valves the best.

I wanted to revive this thread to ask where you find the bottles with the brass valves? The only ones I have seen are the heated ones for winter time. I'm going to get those too, but wanted a summer variety that i could fill partway and freeze, then add more water too.

terri, Bass' shipping is $10.50 for purchases of $0-$24.99. Wish MJ's site was as nice as theirs...it's bare bones for sure, lol.

Funny and timely thread for me. I just got my new trio setup today in their new homes and put up new Big-R (TSC) water bottles for each. They all leak. haha. One worse than the others. While their in the garage... I just put something to catch it. In another week, they'll be outside and I guess it won't really matter much.

I'll try the squeeze flip trick... and hope it stops leaking after the first few uses... as mentioned.

We pick our stuff up from here, I've no idea what shipping might cost, but y'all can always call / find out. We *love* their KD water bottles (oblong) - top-fill / brass valve.

We've bought our cages, water bottles, and feeders through them, and I think they have very reasonable prices.

This is an interesting thread. I am gonna try the squeeze trick.

Back in the 1980s our breeder, who is now a judge, used crocks and had a rubber, air filled, ball floating on top of the water in each bowl. When the rabbit went to drink its nose would touch the ball and pull its head back so there were no wet necks.

Ughh leaky bottles, been through it all. lol What I've found out was putting a marble in the water bottle really helps (with some of them but not all).

Ah... brilliant! It's like the little ball already in the nipple... but you put a marble in the bottle and it seats on the hole down to the nipple.

I will try that. The squeeze and flip does help... but not solve the leaks.
