Our goat adventure began four years ago. We owned a home in a subdivision and an adjacent empty parcel that looked like the perfect home for some chickens. After a couple of coops, we realized there was plenty more room for goats! We got out books from the library and scoured the internet for goat information and settled on the Nigerian Dwarf breed for their dairy qualities and compact size. Then we searched Craigslist for breeders in the area. We were so blessed to find One Fine Acre nearby with available stock. For us goat newbies, you couldn't find better mentors, not to mention the most beautiful goats! We decided on two teenaged doelings and an expectant doe and set to work putting up a shed and fenced area. The goats moved into their new home in July of '13 and before the next month was out, our herd of three became a herd of four does when Hazel kidded a polled doeling. Four years later and we have six does, a buck, and a wether, and this year's crop of seven kids and counting! It looks likely that number will increase today... We've had three kidding this year and have three more to go.
