Maximus

Back to work on Max’s pen this morning. I got Laynes big tractor and pulled up the T-post that is wrapped in trumpet flower vines, plus the piece of concrete wire. I chained around it, then wrapped chain around the front end loader and pulled it out.

I laid it down and went and stabbed a round bale. I’ll set it this evening, I’m tired now.

I mowed a trail to the panels I wanted from what was my first effort at building a pen for Max. When Layne pulled up those sections of wire, from the old roping chute, the posts and railroad crossties, the crossties left holes. My little tractor found them. I had a front wheel in a hole and a back wheel, cattywhompus, wheels spinning. I rocked it forward and backwards and climbed out of the holes. I got a FEL bucket of dirt and filled the holes.

I backed the truck up in Max’s pen. I had to move a wheel with a heavy iron attachment off the panel I needed, got it in the bucket and took it to the container. When Charles and the boys got here, he helped unload it.

I dragged the panels up to the pen. I mowed some more with my tractor. Charles and the boys loaded old hay and horse manure in my truck. There’s another load for tomorrow. I drove to their house and they unloaded it.

Back at it tomorrow.
Looking great so far!!

That pen is what I was working on when I hurt myself back in February. My son finished it out. Max just decided that it needed a little remodeling....... And really, it did. All that old wire, that strangled T-post, vines and general mess. It will look so much better.

That concrete wire makes good tomato cages...
My daddy made tomato cages for me out of it 45 years ago when we lived in the valley and had great garden soil. They have survived and I brought them with me to Texas. LOL I love them because indeterminate tomato varieties outgrow those silly little V shaped cages before they even bloom! The comcrete wire cages are tall enough to hold the largest vines up off the ground and the large holes make it easy to pick tomatoes inside them. The concrete wire is about 48" wide making a 4' high cage. You need at least 6' of wire to make a large enough diameter cage. 6' length of wire per cage I mean. I hold my cages in place from wind with tent pegs until the tomato bushes are large enough to hold them there. DS1 planted tomatoes in Yantis I better remind him to use those cages . . . .

That's what we use for our cages.

Inside for a glass of iced tea. I mowed where the truck was parked yesterday and where I pulled the vine covered T-post. Charles and boys loaded horse manure. I dragged a couple of panels, laid in place, drove T-posts, stood panels up and tied with hay string. Boys finished loading the truck, I drove it to their house and they unloaded it. Now they get to play video games as their reward! LOL
When they lollygagged around, I told them they were using up MY time and if they caused ME to be out in the heat to finish up, they would be working with me instead of playing video games.

I’ve got to set a round bale for Max, put up the rest of the panels and get the scrap wire out of his pen. On the downhill slide!
