It's been awhile since I've posted. I have been reluctant to start a kidding thread because I didn't think we were that close to kidding. Well, I had a doe surprise me today. Sadly, she kidded in the early morning hours and lost both kids . She is new to us this kidding season and is rather wild. I noticed her bag was filling yesterday, but her ligs were super tight Monday. I thought we had more time as we didn't have a hard and fast date on her. We all thought Maisie would go first (lunchcreek's kidding thread). The kids were well formed and didn't look early. They were large buck/doe kiko twins. I am so angry at myself for not being more diligent in checking on her.
On the upside- if there is such a thing- we managed to milk her out and freeze the colostrum. Also, my son's zoology class will be doing necropsies on Monday. I don't know what a class of high schoolers might find, but any info would be helpful.

Anyhow, Buttercup and Brownie are up next. I will post pictures if we have good outcomes.

Thanks, I have been kicking myself all day for not watching her more closely.

Sorry to hear you lost the twins. It really isn't your fault though, they are such weird creatures and it's hard to tell. I mean I went in the house for an hour, Dolly wasn't having any visible contractions or doing anything other than being vocal, came back out an hour later and had triplets.
It's even harder when you don't have a hard and fast date either, it's not like "Ok, I know you were bred this date and I need to start watching you closely", you know? Don't blame yourself.

How long will a doe search for her kids? Our poor doe that lost her kids on Thursday is still looking for them. It's so sad.

It took my milk goat about 2 days to "get over" her kids being pulled in the house to be bottle fed.

That said, we had a kidding go bad yesterday morning ourselves. Same thing, didn't know when she was due and it went horribly wrong.

I'm so sorry to hear that you had a bad outcome. Can you share what happened? (When you are ready).

Our doe (her name is Doofy), has kind of latched onto our doelings that were born last summer. It's pretty cute to see her cuddle with them at night. She still calls for her lost kids, making me think she would have been a great mom.

I have 2 does on deck for any day now. I am watching them very closely. Hopefully all will go well.
