My First!!!!!!!!!! with PICS

Pepper gave birth to a single blue eyed buck at 4.10pm Belize time.

This is Pepper's first birthing and everything was just fine.

Mum and baby are getting along a treat, looks like she is going to make a wonderful mum

I haven't weighed him yet, but guessing about 4lbs, will weigh him tomorrow am.

His colouring is almost identical to mum, his sire is a dark chocolate brown with white belly band on one side, neither are blue eyed.

Keep your fingers crossed everyone, this is my first and her first, so we are novices together.

Thanks all.

I hardly slept last night, just worrying about what could go wrong.

Dashed out there at 5.10am this morning, and of course everything is OK.

Afterbirth passed sometime last night, cleared up and burned it.

Little guys a real chatterbox, must be nursing OK got a nice full tummy, but I'm on the case constantly checking.

Pepper is making a wonderful mum, which I'm so pleased about.

Went to feed them around 3.30ish yesterday, and she was laying outside at the back of her shed in the shade. Topped up her water and gave fresh feed.

Brought the rest if the herd in from the bush, fed and watered them.

Went back indoors to get the feed ready for the dogs, and I heard a strange sound (I know my goats various bleats) this one I didn't recognise.

Went dashing back out and she was already giving birth, two little hooves already out. I stayed with her to comfort her and make sure everthing went OK, one grunt and a push and the head arrived.

She immediately started to clean him, then stood up the cord broke and that was it all done by 4.10pm. Is this girl a fast cat or what?

Anyhow all seems to be just fine, so I am counting my blessings.

What I thought was strange is she gave birth laying down, I would have thought standing up, but I've only ever seen a calf born before. So what do I know. I suppose they are all different.

I don't really care how she did it, they are both doing fine, that's what matters
