Thank you for the straight shooting. It's all very wise.
My husband is really only concerned with how much the animals cost. We spend a lot of time together so he's not jealous or anything.
He definitely over exaggerated about how much we spend on feed each month. He told me $250. I bought $173 worth in early december (a month ago) and at most we are halfway through it. That's a significant difference in cost.
I did text a friend to ask if she wanted any geese or goats. She was interested in the geese, so I sold them to her.
Anyone want to guess how much? Gander is a 4 yr old toulouse and the goose is a 5 yr old buff x toulouse.

After I sold them, I was so sad. I still am. I think it will take a while to be ok with it. I hatched that goose and the gander is such a blowhard.
It made it worse than DH came home and told me he didn't necessarily intend for me to sell the ones I love.

I'm so sorry you sold them. Maybe your friend would understand and you could buy them back. I would certainly do that for a friend.

Hubs just gave you an opening, just let him know that you love them all!

What breed of goats do you have? Are they dairy goats?

Yes, that is quite a large difference on the feed bill. I'm guessing that brought his feet back down to earth.

Quite a few of us on BYH are straight with people. Reality is what it is. If you have livestock, sooner or later, reality is going to show up. It's better to go into the situation informed of possibilities.

I just made up my list of ewes to sell when lambs are weaned.
There are 6 and 5 year olds on that list. Some were bottle babies. There are 21 on that list, 15 will go for sure, the others depend on if they have ewe lambs or not. And I'm making my list of which ewe lambs to keep from this lambing. I have to get my numbers down. I have to let go of them so I can keep moving forward towards my goal. This time, I have LOTS of white RAMS instead of the boys getting all the color and the girls being white.

So when you get hard reality advice from anyone here, we are not being mean, we are just keeping it real. I have a major heart break coming at me, I'm not looking forward to it, but it must be done.

No, they're boer/kiko, so meat goats. Two does.

OKI have to ask....... are you really going to get a buck to breed them to? And are you REALLY going to slaughter the offspring for meat?

We were working on that a few years ago... had a buck and had kids. Barberpole took out the kids and buck before I diagnosed what the problem was. We had some drug resistance.
But yeah, at this point I'm not starting over. I don't anticipate selling the goats will be as bad.
I would have gotten rid of them before now but dh wanted to eat them if I wanted to sell them. So I felt I couldn't quite commit to selling them.
But he told me yesterday he won't butcher them.

She absolutely would sell them back to me. I'm trying to work through the emotional part of it to see if that's really something I should do. I don't want to be the kind of person who waffles or goes back on things I said, but at the same time, I wouldn't have sold them if I thought that was an option. I'm really struggling.
From the practical standpoint it wasn't the wrong choice because they don't add a lot of value to the homestead. We eat any babies they raise and the eggs she lays... but they aren't very practical. I don't know if selling the goats and getting rid of what chickens I have would be enough to tip the scales enough to justify buying the geese back.But then, told me he didn't necessarily intend for me to sell them so I don't even know what to do.
He told me he doesn't think I should buy this pair back. He said give it 6 months or a year, and we'll get more if i still want them. But the thing is I want my pair. There are no unknowns with them. They're good with my ducks and not aggressive with me. I even hatched the female.
My ducks are all pretty disconcerted. The geese must have bolstered their confidence and made them feel safe. The ducks all stand in a group as one unit and run away if I go anywhere close.
And it's so quiet outside. I really miss the gander trumpeting when he would see me.
