Loving the herd life
Visually it doesn't look like a lot of progress has been made on the kitchen despite the fact that there's been lots! He's built up most of the subfloor, including the section which is under the dishwasher. Unfortunately he found a bit of rot in the sink area. He's going to have to pull all the subfloor layers and replace it.
It's one of those snowball projects. He was trying to do one wall, ceiling, and get the floor laid. Now he wants to rip cabinets off the walls and redo drywall behind them, add outlets, replace counters (Unfortunately quite a bit of rot around the sink area), and set up stuff for how we want the final arrangement to be. He asked me about paint colors yesterday and I just stared at him. We weren't planning to paint the kitchen for at least another year or so. I'm not prepared. I have no idea what I want that wall to be.
plus he has strong opinions on paint color, unfortunately. I tend to like vivid deep colors and he always says, without fail, that the color I chose is too dark and it'll make the room dark and encourage me to go a few shades lighter. Problem is I don't usually like the color if it's lighter... it's a different color at that point.
The kitchen is about half torn apart. I'm planning on it being a disaster for a week or something. We'll make it work.
I felt that choir practice was too short yesterday. Idk if the director had somewhere to be or what. We have songs we sound really good on and others we struggle. I think we have enough to nail it all down, though. My older daughter wants to participate in "The Baby", which is the only song kids participate in. I've been working with her a little bit and letting her listen to it on the cd at night. We've run into a funny problem. Since I sing alto, I'm not always singing the melody. But that's what she's heard me sing around the house so that's the part she's naturally gravitating towards. We've practised with me singing the melody and her singing alto but she ends up listening to me and singing off tune.
I'm not sure how to teach her to not listen to me singing, outside of repetition.
One solution may be for me to play the melody on the piano for her and have her learn that. She'll be standing in the choir surrounded by children who are singing the melody so that might be the way to go.
