My Messy Life - Journal

You all may know about these but I'll post in case no one has gotten one before.
Scammers will sometimes cold text your phone number and pretend they got the wrong number. They then try to befriend you.
In this case, I sent the smiley face to see what they would say next and sure enough, they continued chatting. A real person with a wrong number wouldn't have kept going, or said what age they were, lol.
I've never texted a scammer/bot after a few initial texts but I assume they try to befriend you and then ask for money. Feel free to chime in if you know or have a similar experience.

This is about the 4th one of these I've received in the last few months and they word things similarly, especially the part about making friends. 😂

I'm getting ones lately that say "How are you doing today?" or "What are you doing?" or "What's up today" or
"What've you got planned today?"
I just "Report as spam and delete"

I get the "Don't miss out on your tariff rebate!" type texts.

Blocking and reporting seems to make it increase, so I just delete them.

3 people have been in touch with me since listing the goats.
First person was verrrrrry flaky. Kinda said she liked them but not exactly what she was looking for. She didn't like that I didn't have photos of the parents either. She wanted them for breeding so I gave her a little more headway. (Just because I'd rather they go to someone who will use them, not just slaughter them).
I took extra pics for her two days ago and didn't hear back. This morning I texted her to confirm that meant she wasn't interested. She said she's not really interested but if I don't end up she would give me half my asking price, LOL. Would've been nice if she had just said that up front.
Second person was super interested and wanted to come over immediately. He had no questions and wanted to know if I had others for sale so surely he was buying them for meat. The other lady was texting me before him so I told him I would have to get back to him. He also was offering me $100 less than asking price, which I didn't love.
3rd person texted me today. Wants them for breeding. He wanted to check with one of his friends first to make sure he has a buck to breed them to. I'm hoping he works out.

Sometimes they lie -- but hope it's breeding & a buyer. I have had to deal with the emotions of dairy & meat animals. Got some desensitizing years back when only meat type. My trained dairy are hardest for me to sell.🫤. But usually I can determine they truly want a milker!! Pet types, harder.

🤞🫂

I think this third guy genuinely wants them for breeding as I didn't ask....he brought that up himself.
At the end of the day I still need to sell them and if they go for meat, so be it. It will be a bummer, though.

Scammers just tick me off! Being younger we know when it's happening, but the elderly get caught off guard too easy too often. My mom was scammed by charities, but her heart was in the right place. I'd talk to her about it and we'd look at who she'd sent money to, most were not organizations she would have given money to. She finally decided that I should take her debit card and checkbook. We're talking several thousand dollars and that's pretty much all she had. 🙁 I didn't want her money, I wanted her to spend it how she wanted, but I tried to help her do it wisely. When she passed I gave her remaining money to my older sister. She needed it more than I did.
