Need Advice About Waterers

Hi Everyone!!

I have been using a large, cut PVC pipe to water my two sows, but they keep knocking the nipple off and causing the PVC to chip I have had to repair these at least 4 times!! :/

Does anybody have an ideas on a better way to water my pigs? I have looked online for pig waterers but don't want to spend $300+ when I'm only watering 2 pigs!

We use a 55 gallon barrel ($15) that a hole was drilled in just high enough off the ground for pigs to drink from. We then installed one of those drinking things that work like this: The pig pushes its nose against a lever and water drains out of the barrel into a little trough/bowl and they drink all they want. This lever/drinking bowl aparatus is found at most feed stores. I saw one a while back for $70...so you can have a 55 gallon automatic waterer for around $85....hope this helps.

We t stake all the way around so they dont damage or flip and we got 75 head so it get expencive when we have to replace waters oh and the $300 waters they break just as easily we invested in a few only to have them distroyed! so we t stake looks odd but we havent replaced one water since

Any chance of posting a picture of this? Or a more detailed description, like what type of waterer you are staking and what do you mean by t staking?

We use a big rubber tub and a hose..... for four pigs.

Same here for our two pigs. We had to anchor the rubber tub to the wall though, the pigs were flipping it over. Now we can drain the tub, but they can't. Easy!

I would like to see a pic. of this-----could you put a heater in the 55 gal. barrel for the winter?

Looks like the 55gal barrel wins, with mouth piece, that is what I use here on the homestead. I only butcher 3 a year for personal use, but I raise about 14 for others, works fine knock on wood no issues yet. My smokehouse plays a real important part here with my personal pigs. Are your pigs for breeding or butchering? Not that it matters.
