I bought an east fresian last fall and the lady I bought her from said she sheers her herself with clippers. Has anyone tried this? I only have one sheep with wool so I hate to spend a crazy amount on something I use once a year on one animal. My others are hair sheep.

If you just have a few, there are cheap electric shears on Amazon that work pretty well. Use caution as they get hot! I wouldn't use ones for dogs as the lanolin clogs them up and the wool is so coarse causes trouble.
I don't know why but the ones made for sheep scare me 😂. Maybe it's because I'm a hairdresser and the ones for dogs look the same as the kind I use on people 😂. Is it easy enough to do?

I used a Lister Star clipper with the coarse clipping blades from Premier1 for a long time. They worked ok, but were very slow. I use an actual shearing machine now since I have a lot more sheep to get through every year.

Dog clippers might work, but it will take forever, it may ruin the fleece (if that is a concern for you), and will likely burn through and wreck the machine and blades pretty quickly.

For just one sheep, a good pair of hand shears would be the most cost effective. I like these ones better than the traditional hand shears - https://www.premier1supplies.com/p/pourika-hand-shears?cat_id=34.

Thanks! I don't knownif I trust myself with hand shears 😂. I don't know why I'm so scared of all this. I went ahead and bought an electric one. I will report back to this post for anyone else in the future scared like me 😆. I'm use to hair sheep so this is all new to me but I wanted a dairy ewe for the yummy milk. Hopefully it's worth it.
