Nothing. I’m happy with how I started, and learned along the way. I learned a lot right here on BYH. I started with 4 bred ewes, mixed Dorper and Katahdin. My first ram was a black head Dorper. He was mean and wound up in the freezer. Then I got a Katahdin ram and kept going with Katahdins. I’m moving into registered Katahdins. My goal is 50 ewes, I have 30 now, registered and commercial.

Make sure you have all the fencing, shelters, equipment ready before purchasing your first animal. AND make sure that the pen areas and shelter areas are much larger than yu think you will need since you never make them big enough! LOL

If you are asking for yourself, make sure about the amount of feed it will take, the cost, and vaccines yo will be giving.
