Phew on the snake. I get the scared holy beejeebers -- happens to me every time. Here's how it goes for me
1. startle scare bejeebers out of me
2. "awe crap"
3. what kind is it
4a. on noisy ones get shovel or call DH to come help (big ones)
4b. on non-noisey ones get them to skeedattle if they are in a
"traffic pattern"

I seen it a couple of weeks ago and just about had a heart attack then but I realized he's black and yellow so he's a good fellow. Black and white I'm alright. Any other colors and they would be deceased.

I have garter snakes here, harmless and they are good for the ecosystem. Copperheads get unalived if they show up.
I agree with you. I was almost killed by a rattlesnake when I was a kid. I don't do snakes. The flashlight is the only reason I am not dead. He came at me and the flashlight I put it up to my face and the flashlight almost knocked me out because of how big the snake was.

I'm considering ripping out the garden. I'm going to leave the pumpkins, sweet potatoes and tomatoes but that's about it. It's just not really doing good so I'm just tired of trying to keep up dealing with it. I also think I am going to find a new home for my ducks. They are too much for me and the neighbors

Sometimes you have a bad garden year. If weeds are the problem, make your rows wide enough to mow them. I've done that before. Better luck next year.
Ducks. I had ducks for a short time. They can be a lot of work. Chickens are so much less demanding.
Don't be discouraged, you are figuring out what works for you.

The garden isn't producing so I'm going to remove the plants that aren't producing and next year I want to go vertical with the garden. It will give me more room plus make it easier to weed. I was hoping to use the ducks' water for fertilizer for the garden but they just stink too much and with breathing difficulties it's just best to get them rehomed

Yeah - sometimes gardens do that. Mine have been there done that and I rip them out, clean up, check the soil nutrients adjust and start again. For what it's worth - while most of my gardens (raised beds) did great I've got one tomato that I'll pull - it has bugs ?white fly? and the others don't, had a gorgeous cucumber plant lots of cukes - every last one of them was bitter. Pulled that already.
Good idea with the ducks - good you tried and learned.
