The good, had a guy here cleaning out my barn :), the exciting......my 22 month old heifer finally in heat and AI bred today.....the shocking....S'more, Nubian doe acting weird tonight looking like she was constipated...........she gave birth in Feb, have been watching for signs of heat to no avail....oh my not constipated it's a bubble!!!!! She's giving birth....oh shoot premature kid... born alive, lived for 1/2 hour, super tiny, no hair except on his head, beautiful kid but no chance, held him in a towel til he died. WHAT THE HECK!!! We put the buck(Togg/Alpine) in with the does off season when my daughter bought her nigerian herd for about 60 days. Figured no one cycling til Aug at least it's a safe thing to do. During that time no one acted in heat, I saw no "Action". Crap, gave the others a "feel up" crap again Sasha has movement in her uterus, definately pregnant. She's a Oberhasli/Alpine ok this not expected isn't she a fall breeder???? Luckily do to temporary family circumstances stopped milking 3 weeks ago, guess we are milking again now. Now I am not sure if any will come into heat this spring or if they are all knocked up. Geez Louise, what a day!

SASHA HAD TWINS!!! Beautiful delivery, having had a vet delivery for 2 sets of stuck twins Sasha had a very easy time tonight, one doeling and one buckling. I think that's the last of the OOPSY kids! Edy had a doeling a week ago and Carmen had a buckling same day. Rehomed those kids to a woman who will use them for therapy animals. Placing these 2 kids also because I don't have time for bottle kids this time of year. Now we can start breeding the rest of the girls ON SCHEDULE!! 3 girls milking off season now so cool, we'll make some cheese!

Not happy about Sasha at all, she the one who needed vet assistance twice. This isn't going to be good I bet. Bought the Nigerian stud to breed to her :(.

I have come to never trust the season on "seasonal" does. Especially if a buck is thrown in suddenly. It can be enough to toss a few/all into heat.

I will keep my fingers crossed on Sasha. Please keep us posted on how she does.

Sounds like the old livestock code of don't count on anything that should be "the norm" because anything can happen. I'm sorry you have to through this.

Thanks guys, I feel a bit stupid right now. I thought from all I've read I didn't have to worry until August about goats cycling/coming into rut. I am pretty much counting on a vet delivery with Sasha, I would be surprised otherwise, both her deliveries were very difficult ones. I am not going to grain her just use good hay, she had a pair of 8# twins last time. I don't think S'more has anything wrong. The goats got out and went into the road the day she kidded and my son freaked out and really chased them to get them back to the barn. It was a misunderstanding, we had someone working in the barn cleaning the cow area and he thought he had to go thru the goat stalls so he let them out, gates were open and loose goats. He didn't know not to chase them. I think she aborted from shock, no one knew there were pregnant goats in the herd. No ones fault. The plus is maybe she'll produce some unexpected milk this winter. She's in good shape, don't t hink I will hurt her if her milk comes in good.

Very true. Gotta love em tho. S'more's early delivery alerted us to set up a barn cam.
