Hey does anyone have experience pasturing goats in an area with a pond? Will they fall in and drown or can they swim? I have two separate fenced in ponds (about an two acres each, including the pond and pasture) and would like to utilize this space, one has pretty steep banks, but lots of brushy growth and grass, the other has shallow banks but hardly anything for them to munch on, opinions??

While most do not like to go in water, they are actually good swimmers.

ETA....Watch for snails....creating issues for liver flukes in goats.

There is a Pond in the area in which my goats would browse..

I never had an issue, BUT while about 1/3 of the pond has steep sides, the rest is easier to get in and out.

My goats totally avoided the pond, even with tasty bushes at the edge.

Even with new kids, I never had an issue.
