pumpkins as cattle feed

Glad this thread was brought back to life. I would never have even thought about pumpkins for supplimental feed for our cows. We go strictly grain and hay and only 1 of our 4 bovine will even eat an apple or carrot. Maybe they would get interested in pumpkin if we just left it for them to play around with.

Good info!

Thanks pasofinofarm - great info

We are smashing pumpkins for a second week now and have hundreds still to go - pigs go crazy for em, some cows like them some dont bother, and it is a thumbs down from the sheep but they will eat some seeds.

The sheep like 'em better after they've fermented....tear into them like sharks in a feeding frenzy around Jan/Feb.
