Symphony (in OH) finally lambed this afternoon! Triplets, 2 girls and a boy.

I’m hoping to go pick them all up next weekend.

The front lawn got very tall and thick after all that rain and I thought it was a waste of good grass to mow it so I put the rams on it.

We’ve got a strange looking gourd growing in the garden.

I finally got some chicks.

I’ve got some Easter Eggers, barred rocks, Partridge rocks, and Brahmas. There’s also 8 meat birds that were older and the feed store needed them gone so I got them for cheap.

Everyone was doing great, but yesterday and today have been cold and damp and I lost a chick last night and another this morning. I added a 2nd heat lamp (they also have a brooder plate) and they look more comfortable now.

I may get more chicks so I can get more variety, but I won’t keep them all. I’ll grow them out until they are bigger and off heat, pick out the ones I want to keep and sell the rest.

I drove to OH to pick up the rest of the Shetlands yesterday. Long day. It’s 5.5hrs each way. Everyone handled the trip well. The moms don’t seem too stressed. They’re in a pen with Jemima and Buster (the broken leg lamb) and 4 Shetland ewes that are weaning their lambs. Everyone is getting along nicely and the lambs aren’t getting pushed around either.

Symphony has the triplets. So far they are just nursing off her and they all look good. I’ll keep an eye on them in case someone needs help.

They very quickly discovered the bucket

I’ve already broken one of the girls. She came right up to me for scratches.

Linen’s boys are both nice, but her brown boy is going on the grow out list. You don’t see that many moorit gulmoget breeding rams.

We had some window-lickers on the way home. 🤣

I may be keeping a lot of Shetland ewe lambs this year. I have the 2 new girls that will be staying and then there’s 3 of mine that I’m planning to keep. Except now there’s a little black ewe that is trying to worm her way into staying. It’s the year to keep extras though because I will have options to breed them to next fall without having to go out and buy another ram.

These pictures are adorable!

I think the "Rub a dub dub, three lambs in a tub" is perfect for a picture of the week entry!
