Nice to get an unexpected nice day and to get some things done in more pleasant conditions...
Great, that the ewe is letting the other lamb steal some... It was a good move for you to keep her lamb on her, and the other can steal for a bit and both will continue to grow if they are getting a little extra grain also...

Always a little bitter sweet to make culling decisions.... can't keep them all... Hate it when we have a few favored ones that just don't cut the mustard for keeping for breeding but they have the personalities... and then there are a few that you CAN'T WAIT to put on the trailer..
But, yep, someone had to help pay the feed bill.

Do you normally sell this time of year? Is it a good market there this time of year? All our close by sale barns are closed for Memorial day holiday...Thurs/Fri/Sat/Mon.... We have already shipped most everything, last ones about a month ago... But then we will be doing preg checks in the next 2 weeks, and getting ready to wean off the fall born calves so the cows get a couple months rest before they start again in late Aug/early Sept...
The way beef prices have been here, there is no bad time to sell this year...

Prices were lower than the 5/11 sale, but still ok overall. My 2 30lb 7-8 week old lambs that weren’t graded and were put in the feeder lamb pen sold for more per lb than my BIL’s lot of prime/choice lambs.

I got more than I was expecting for my culls so that was good.

I listed my ewe lambs for sale last night and I almost immediately got a message asking about them. The guy asked what I was asking, but didn’t ask any other questions so immediately got a little suspicious. I asked him what he was looking for and his response was that he was “just getting into sheep.”

I sent him a message with more details of what I have available and the price (much higher than you could get at a sale) and he never responded. I’m fairly certain that he was looking for groups of cheap lambs to flip around and resell at a sale.

Flaky people are a pain to deal with. Taking sheep to auction is so much easier and you don’t have to deal with idiots.
I *may* be wrong about this guy after all. He responded like 10 minutes after I posted here and said he wants to get 1 ewe. We shall see if he follows through.

It could be that he is just getting started in sheep and has no idea of where prices are - what's good, what's sky high, what's too good to be true. Just sayin' as I know I didn't have much of an idea other than what herding trial sheep were valued at (has to be put in the herding premium for replacement value IF). But then there are a lot of flakes and quick resellers as well. Hoping he's what he says he is.

True. I’m more than a little jaded trying to sell sheep here. I think 90% of people that reach out are either livestock dealers/flippers or just plain time wasters.

I had a guy a couple years ago who said he wanted to buy all of my ewe lambs (it was around 12) but he couldn’t get them for a week or so. He then proceeded to make excuses, pens not ready, truck not available until x day, truck broke down, etc. I was going out of town for a couple weeks and he said “oh I’ll just send you a deposit and pick up when you get back”. I refused to take a deposit because I was pretty sure he wasn’t going to show up at all. I reached out to him when I was home and he never responded. Not sure if he was just wasting my time or found something cheaper elsewhere.
