I’ve been wanting to get some meat turkeys, but hadn’t had any luck finding any so far this year. I could only find them before I was ready or only heritage breeds. I love heritage turkeys, but I want faster growing ones right now. I don’t think I saw any less than $15/ea.
I finally found some at TSC today. Broad-breasted Whites at $11.99/ea. I really only wanted 4, but minimum purchase is 6. When I asked someone for help getting the birds, one of the managers came over and asked how badly I wanted turkeys. He said they were getting big and he needed to move them. He offered them to me for $1/ea if I took all of them. So that’s how I came home 19 turkeys. They’re maybe 2 weeks old.
A few Shetland lamb fleeces. These are 3 of the oldest ram lambs. All gorgeous.

You got an even better deal than I did at Rural King a couple weeks ago... They had just gotten in a shipment of baby chicks, needed to move the older ones to make room... Chicks were $1.00... BOGO ... so $.50 each. Turkeys were originally $17.99... offered for $5.00 each... BOGO so $2.50 each. I took all of them... 25... got 24 for 2.50 and threw in the extra. Sometimes right place, right time...
Good for you. Mine are "heritage"... 5 are probably Naragansett... the other 20 are white... but some have cinnamon colored heads so might color in... Regardless... still cheap enough.

You can’t beat a deal like that! Will you keep any for breeding stock or will you be selling home grown turkeys for Thanksgiving dinner?

They are meat turkeys so they won’t do well long term/be able to breed. My plan is to sell most of them. The rest will be for our Thanksgiving dinner plus a couple for other people.
They are very sweet though. They all came running to the front of the coop this morning when I fed them and one climbed into my hand.

So, they are like the Cornish Cross chickens. You gotta butcher them because they just keep growing until they have a heart attack.
I think I'd have a hard time slaughtering one with sweet eyes.
