My bantam chicks most likely came drop shipped from Ideal according to usps tracking and the varieties i got (Golden neck D'uccles? And "bantam" sultans). Pooey. If I wanted chicks from ideal i would have gotten them there myself. Right now it looks like only a few bantams will be female, which might be for the best. I guess the houdan rooster can have them. I wonder where the campines, houdan, and polish came from? Usps origin was st paul, Minnesota...
I guess it was a rough year to get chickens.

I'm glad the campines have been nice enough. As long as we dont bring in anything that persists i can always start over as needed next year.

I wish i knew if McMurray was still breeding their own line of Australorp or white leghorn. I think those are the main varieties they say they've developed themselves and like, but it doesnt seem like the hatchery is what it used to be. I know they got hit with birdflu last year and times are tight. Double pooey.

My neighbor converted an old gooseneck horse trailer into a chicken coop. It turned out really well. For Mother’s Day they got a dozen 2 month old barnyard mix pullets. She’s thrilled and enjoying her chickens!
That sounds awesome! I haven't seen it as much here, but in tn you could pick up a very old beater trailer for free and that would be so much space...and mobile if you wanted to keep up the wheels do the grazing chicken thing with electric nets. Your neighbor sounds cool!

Goat math occurred today. Unfortunately it has extra bits, but it's a Lamancha and an old style one at that from the herd master over at Lucky 4-Leaf Lamanchas. She breeds a subset of goats from her parents goat herd, Little Orchard. I think I've got enough Lamancha bucks now ;) this guy is small enough he probably won't see does until next year.

I picked him up at a goat show in Gaithersburg (hey, our zip code, but hey, an hour and a different world away-fairgrounds are an oasis in a crazy urban jungle) and you'll be happy to know that the goats there today were not butter balls for the most part (other than the nigerians, of course, because for some reason ND must always be over stuffed couches in the show ring).

He wants to know why his bucket of milk is late. I don't have time to pasteurize and cool it before we leave for church and didn't want to leave it cooling overnight so it will be his lunch. I'm trying to get him interested in grain for breakfast.

He's pan fed and I was not prepared for how a pan fed kid eats. He dives in up to his eye balls and chugs the whole quart without breathing.
