We’ve gotten about 3-4” of snow today with another 1-3 still to come. I did go out to run some errands because we needed milk. And I just felt like going. I think the drivers around here are pretty reasonable. Slow and steady, but yeah, much less traffic than a normal Saturday. I did see one car in a ditch, and I was kind of surprised.

Nice Christmas party. They forgot to give Mark music or took his music so he had to play pieces from memory or make it up and he got to play with a jazz band made of HS seniors which was also dumped on him last minute, but he had fun.

My friend the milkmaid over on Hawkins Creamery brought up that her boss is probably going to sell one of his mini jersey milkers...with lots of winking (I think she's been talking to Aiden and Dan). She said it's usually about 2k. Oh boys. I suspect I'll be told every time he wants to sell a cow or heifer now. The cows are very pretty and very small-and opinionated and a bit bossy. I told her maybe only if it was one she was sad about him selling. She has a heifer she's been working with. She and her husband have been looking for a farmette so she can have her 500-600 lbs cows, specifically this cow, Rowan. I'd keep a cow for her until she moved if the cow passed disease testing. I think they're going to find a place soon though so I don't have anything to worry about. They've been working for the same online retailer with no kids and no moving and discounted rent in exchange for cow milking and farm handing so I get the feeling they are in good financial shape. It's just a matter of finding a property with a house in good shape that also has land in this area and isn't stupid expensive...which is very familiar, so she can buy her heifer, lol.

We also buy grass fed jersey beef from her boss-yellow fat and grassy cheesy flavor and all. I'll probably wind up buying a whole entire cow from them eventually in freezer form. That's going to have to be good enough for the boys for now.

Jersey beef IS the best beef, btw. It goes very well mixed with fatty goat to make hamburgers too.

Before the job market gets flooded with people he should get his resume sent out. Can he set up in business for himself as a consultant? Then you could move to a less expensive area.

I read many years ago that in one country women were not allowed in the military because they were more bloodthirsty and did not take prisoners like male soldiers did. Might have been Israel but they do have women in ther military now so who knows. The theory was that while men fight for their families and country, women fight for their children and are more willing to kill to protect them. Not sure if it is true. I can only say that if I were fighting for my children I would probably not stop until the intruder was dead. Don't want any of those fim scenarios where the dead bad guy suddenly leaps up again! LOL

I agree with this theory.

Us too. Unfortunately that time was early this year the first time they had mass firings across the tech industry. The tech giants definitely did not co-operate so they'd all do it at the same time because that would be illegal but they coincidentally all started doing it the same time early this year now the rate and scale of the firing days are increasing. This also may have definitely not intentionally to crashed wages to boot, so even if someone was fired and they wanted them back or another big company wanted them they could hire them back at a reduced rate...except with everyone forcing "return to office" they'd be getting less money and still be forced to live in a grossly over priced place...making the prospects a little grim especially with everything getting more expensive.

But I cant even with DH's industry today, so i won't.

You betcha! Most of it is usually roasts and little steaks for us. Currently we're down to ground in the freezer so that's what's on my mind lately.

I'm definitely keeping listed the la-nubians I have in milk. I'm possibly drying them off or going down to once daily for them as well. They are correct, big, and beautiful, but now that they are past peak and down to not great production and not desperate and tight at every milking they are complete froot loops on the stand and love showing me how big, strong, and flighty they are. They may need to be milked one at a time, near to the pen now and I don't want to milk in the elements and if they're only going to make 4 or 5 pounds per day each like they did yesterdady...that is a one walk to the stand, one walk back to the pen situation. And no more running around like partying fools just because you can.

The mini that is quite a bit smaller than them and producing just under 5 lbs is nervous and very confused.

I have one la-nubian from a different line left on my eval list, bottle raised rather than dam raised, freshening in Feb. If she acts like this too she may be an easy cull. They may not be for me or my setup.
