Yes Mother Nature is doing a good job culling for me. I wanted to cut numbers so I suppose I should think about it as weeding out the weakest. Still 2 ewes missing that we haven't found the carcasses yet. Should be one in each pasture to find. ☠️

Hooray! The Conex boxes are arriving today! :weee Once they are here and leveled we will put the shelving in them. I counted and we only brought 3 sets of 6'x6'x2' heavy duty shelving units. :( We may have to buy another couple sets before going back to California and retrieving the ones still there in those Conexes and the milk shed.

At least with the Conexes in place we can move our rabbit equipment from the tool shed (collapsed 36x30 cages, watering system, cage parts, etc.), our boxes of electric fencing parts (the old kind with off sets), building materials, and all the other plastic tubs of miscellaneous equipment which are taking up the space in what should be a dedicated tool shed. Once we get all tht stuff out of the tool shed (and house), we can empty the tool shed and install the cabinets brought from CA, rearrange the shelving and organize the tools. :bow DS1 and I can hardly wait.

We have rented a tractor and 6' mower for a week. They will deliver it tomorrow. Our tractor broke again while DH was mowing yesterday. :somad Something with the shifter. He was in a foul mood when he walked back in from the field. The mobile tractor repair guy can't come for 3 weeks and Payton, who we would have hired to mow everything and would have been glad for the work, says their shredder cylinder is in the shop. The rental tractor is a larger John Deere and a 6' mower/shredder. DH will be able to get everything mowed and DS1 will be able to use it to connect the auger to drill the rest of the post holes for the pasture H braces and gates to finish off several more electric fenced pastures. Once we have several pastures, we can move the sheep from pasture to pasture and hopefully get the Barber Pole worms under control. When we sell the CA house we will buy a new tractor locally. I am so over tractor repairs. :rant Naturally with the trctor down, today is a really nice cool day when mowing would have been more comfortable for him. Oh well, we will use today getting the Conexes situated.

Moved the sheep back into their original pasture since the trucks have to drive through the safety corridor with the Conexes. We remarked where they are to go and have to take down some fencing to give them plenty of room to maneuver. Also have to drag the RR ties over wher they are supposed to go. The drivers will arrange them as they drop the containers.

STORAGE! :weee:yesss:

Yay for more storage!
Tractor; fix the one you have, treat it nice so hopefully it doesn’t break again.
Sell house in Ca. Buy new tractor, then sell or trade in the old one. It’s been a good tractor but it is obsolete now and parts are practically nonexistent. Time to move on.

Absolutely our plan. Someone who works on their own tractors will buy the FarmTrac and be able to keep it running. Maybe even with jerry-rigged parts. We might call the FarmTrac repair people in Houston and see it they are interested. They buy and sell FarmTracs. For now the rental tractor has arrived. It is a John Deere 4052 with a 6' shredder/mower. Slightly larger than ours with a lot more HP. The tractor has a good seat and has accessible controls. The shredder impressed both DS1 and DH because it started without rattling around and ran smoothly. ;) Unfortunately rain is forecast for Friday. We need it badly, but it is guaranteed since we rented the tractor for a week. :( Hopefully we can get all the mowing done and DS1 can use it for the fence post holes he needs to put in for the next 2 or 3 runs of electric fencing.

I have to take DH to VA in Greenville because that troublesome incision on his side has opened again but he will mow as soon as we retrun this afternoon. The doctor said that it is in a bad spot at his waistline, but it has opened more so it may need to be restitched. We will be back in time for him to get in several hours mowing today. Since it is a 6' mower as opposed to our 4' mower he will get a lot more done in less time.

While DH is mowing, DS1 and I will set up the shelving in the Conex that is level end to end. We don't want to fill it yet since Brian has to come over and possibly level it side to side about an inch. The second one has to be moved into the right positon because the trucks couldn't get it situated. The pump and pump shed were in the way. DS1 said Brian can use his big tractor to push it into place using the round fence posts we bought for the electric fencing. We will put them under the front edges and it will roll on them into position, then he will lift one end with his tractor and we will position the RR ties properly. DH and I used to move 8' x 12' construction sheds at our place in California using metal fence posts that way.

Anyway, once the Conex is in position, we can start moving stuff onto the shelves from the house and tool shed. DS1 went down to Lowes and bought the paint on roofing insulation to paint the roof and exterior of the Conexes. According to Brian that will lower the interior temperature in summer by quite a bit. The Conexes are situated under a large tree, and the one closest to the toolshed (10' away) will have complete shade all day, firt from the tool shed and back ysrd trees, then the overhead tree, then from the other Conex. The second Conex on the west side will not have as much shade protection but we can use it to store stuff like the rabbit cages, metal and wood building supplies, feeders, and yard tools. The inner Conex will be for stuff that needs a lower temperature. Since we only feed heavily in the winter, we can also take advantage of sale prices on bagged feed. The Conex won't heat up in winter so no problem for bags of feed. Both of them have breather vents. We hope to make enough room in the toolshed so DS1 can work in there on projects. We are thinking about adding a small window AC to the toolshed to make it more comfortable in summer. Running power tools gives off a lot of heat.

I just hope we live long enough to accomplish everything. Then we can sit on our screened front porch with ceiling fans in our rocking chairs and relax. I'll hang our loud wind chime out there as well. The highway traffic won't bother us because DH is already pretty deaf so he can take out his hearing aids and I can use ear plugs. :gig

DS1 just said that rain is expected for Friday. Naturally just as we rent a tractor and mower it will rain! We play bridge on Friday so if it rains then no problem. We do need the rain, so I hope that everyone is appreciative that by renting a tractor and mower for a week we have brought the needed water to the fields!

Talked to DS a little bit ago; he is mowing hay... after mowing the sorghum yesterday afternoon... and said there was basically no rain in the forecast for 10 days... I said yeah, a 15-20% chance of stray showers on Friday... and he said the same... if it takes him mowing hay to get it to rain a decent amount, right here, then everyone ought to thank him and we will be glad for it...
