Today did not go as planned.
A first timer ewe had a nose sticking out. Had to help, DH came to help, called my neighbor who has/had goats (another story later). I could only get the lamb out so far, worked and worked could hook a finger around a leg but could not get it to move push pull etc. Neighbor tried after me, managed the other leg instead. Neither of us could pull enough. DH to the strength rescue managed to pull the lamb out. The lamb had expired more than likely over a day ago or so. Hair was falling out. Milked out some colostrum. Oxytocin given to help clean out, LA200.
If the ewe makes it she won't be staying here. Not for the bad presentation, but lack of any signs of labor.
Such is life. Bummed - but that's the way it goes.
On a better note, the triplets all continue to gain weight and are all now about the same weight over 8lbs.

I'm so sorry! I hope the ewe makes it. Would be sad to lose both of them.

Yesterday ended with twins. A ram and a ewe. Both white and good sized. Ram is 9.2lbs and ewe is 8.4lbs.
Interesting, they are out of the daughter of Cap (both ewes are black) and bred to the same St Croix ram. I was wondering if they'd also have the black spots. Nope! Just one little brown spot on the ram lamb's withers.

Sometimes you lose, but then on the next one you gain. It's an up and down ride sometimes. I always say that I'll take the hits, I'll take the loss, because the joys far outweigh the losses and if I gave up because of a loss, I'd miss all the joy.

Sorry about the loss of the baby and possible the ewe. But look at the beautiful lambs you have. Blessings.

Your right on the reds - these could/will make good replacements. LOL -- number-wise I hadn't thought of it that way.

Absolutely! Color sells and they are soooo flashy! Love them and I would definitely keep all 3. Not only for the color but out of a ewe that is a good mama they will be real benefits to the flock.

Since the lamb was already dead several days or more, that may be the reason she showed no signs of labor. Big lamb, first freshener, good thing DH was able to pull it out. She may go on to have successful pregnancies and lambings in future, but with Cap's 3 gorgeous replacements you can cull her without a qualm.

It looks like Cap's ewe lambs are good mamas. I have two of her ewe lambs - both first timers, one lambed last fall twin brown ram lambs no problems, and the two white lambs above are also out of a Cap daughter.

Yesterday we had a rainy day - all of ~0.2 inches #rain2026 (last rain was 1/5) Total rain so far in 2026 is ~2.7 inches

Finally a morning like it's supposed to be this time of year - starting at 43* !! Obi and I took the sheep and the new lambs out grazing this morning. Zo stayed home - sometimes he can be a little tougher on lambs.
All went well. At the end we put them all in the fenced pastures. Obi loves his lambs.
The triplets are all gaining weight much more quickly than any other triplets we've had. Different ewe than the others. Quite pleased with their gains.
