She's a little thing - but determined! Born at 5.2# the next morning, not much on her. It looks like she's nursing and getting something - but either not enough or she's faking :idunno. Weight this morning says not enough 5.0#. Not much to her. I decided to supplement. She's taking 2-3 oz at a feeding and she's looking better already. I'll wait until tomorrow to weigh her. She gets around fine so there's no lack of energy. Thinking once she's got a little weight on and she's back with the flock she's determined enough to bum off the other ewes.

Can you-- are you-- milking the ewe mom? She may not have gotten her milk in fully, or lamb needs to learn to suckle better??? I know they're penned together but some babes just are born bold enough, strong enough to get started. Also, are you sure her tear plug is out? Milking her will help stimulate the milk .... As I'm sure you know , 😉

I've tried but not getting much. I'll keep trying. Hopefully I'll get something more than I am. She's a first timer. Most of the ewes this time around are first timers.

Just double checked and she's not plugged -- milk but not much. It's a waiting game to see if / when more comes in. Until then - I'll supplement. 🙂

Yesterday I weighed the lil girl - 5.0# then last night I decided to weigh her - up to 5.4#! I figured she'd drop some weight overnight - last feeding at 10pm and first at 7:30am -- and the scale would not settle down reading 5.4 then 5.6 and back and forth again. I'll take that as 5.5 and a gain!! not much but I'll take it and she didn't lose weight.
She bounces around the stall so cute.

A canning gal came to pick up her jars from the Fair yesterday. She told us that she slept in the sheep barn for the 10 days of the fair. :th

She was transporting them home on Sunday night, and when she got there, about 30 min away, one of her ewes had died in the trailer. She and her friend did a necropsy and found, amongst other things, discolored lungs, so she's thinking that the stress of the hot hot hot weather and the hot ride home in a crowded trailer was too much for this 2 year old.

On Sunday when I left the Fair at 11:15 p.m, it was still 85 outside. Poor ewe.
