SageHill Ranch Journal

Thanks, I did keep the wool. Calico's (hair with wool) will go in the garden. I'll mess around with the other two - though someone asked for one (was particular even - so not sure what I'll do). I could be nice and give her the one she wants (Miss Piggy's), or give her the other. But free seems to give me trouble when one is picky. Sigh.
I have to check my records on knees. I did have a miniscus tear that I had repaired a long time ago - yeah sheep related - but that was doing lots of instinct testing with others dogs. I don't think it's the same knee.

How will you use it in your garden? I agree, unless asked to choose which one she would like. Is this your first shearing? If so, you could tell her you'd like to keep the first ones and offer the next, if you want to give any away that is. You worked hard for these and paid lots of money for them.

Hope your knee is improving. I ran around for 20 years without an ACL, in my left knee. I don't know if they didn't have the ability to repair them back then, I was only 15 when I blew it out.

@drstratton - yup my first shearing with wool sheep - and probably my last as I will be looking to sell both of the wool sheep. They are nice enough as sheep go, but just haven't worked out quite to my liking. Those hair sheep - I guess I understand them better. :)
I'm going to use the wool/hair from Calico in the garden as a top dress/mulch. I've been reading a lot about using wool to both improve soil with nutrients as well as moisture retention. There's been a lot of work in Australia where they've pretty much taken barren ground and turned it into productive ground for crops. Pretty amazing stuff. They DO have a lot of extra wool over there!!😁 Wool has also been pelletized to work into the ground - pour it on, till or shovel it in.
I've got a few garden boxes/raised beds that I haven't cleared out yet so I may even try to work some into the dirt as well.

@Ridgetop - yeah normally I don't trust as you described. I totally trust my friend's dogs - she trials at USBCHA Nationals and Nursery Finals. It was her student's dog - I mistakenly spread the trust - then DH said the gal said it was the first time for her dog load a trailer. SIGH.

Overall the knee is doing better little by little. I was probably heading toward a dislocation (felt weird thump/thump inside) but the outer ligaments must've snapped it back. What I think I've got is soft tissue bruising from that. The rate it's feeling better makes sense for something like that. Still being careful, bending is sorta coming back, twisting - ooowwww -- not quite yet.

I had no idea! Very cool.

It always takes time. Glad to hear it is starting to feel better.

WOAH -- I hadn't even thought of that. I don't know where to start to find a place to send them to that's reliable/good.
I was just looking at this. You could do it yourself, save some money. You just have to be careful not to felt it. There are videos and articles that show you how. It would be easier to ship it out, but I'm a cheapskate and DIY anything I can...lol I think it would be fun and rewarding. Then I'd have to buy a spinning wheel and maybe a loom... now it's no longer cheaper! I better not raise sheep.
