OK OK these are 2 completely different questions, but one is breed specific and the other, well, not sure where'd it go :hide

1) So we have 2 Nigerian dwarfs, both of whom were dishorned... Badly. They have scurs, which doesn't bother me *that* much, but I'd rather have no horns or full horns (full horns preffered :p ) So, I plan on breeding my doeling (wether and doeling), but not de-horn. So, would it be OK if we say kept the kid (gonna eat if its a buck, unless y'all say ND tastes bad..), and she just had full horns? Would it be OK with the other 2 having only scurs?

And do ND's bucks tend to pee on themselves more/less often then other bucks or no? Just wondering, in the future I'd want to keep a buck and this I was curious about

It is really up to you whether you want horns or not and scurs/horns, they should do just fine together. And yes, people do send bucklings to "freezer camp". And as to your last question, I don't think ND bucks pee on themselves any more or less than other breeds. :D

I would rather keep horns then to disbud any day. I love horns and I have seen way to many mistakes and lots of issues with disbudding. I have two ND bucks that are disbudded in with my Kiko buck, who has pretty large horns. They all get along great and play all the time. So I don't think that having some with and some without should be an issue. It might get a little harry in rut but I think it should be ok.

Aslo, all goat tastes the same, or close to it. SO no, ND do not taste bad. I would weather him before you slaughter though.

The only time my ND buck pees on himself is around and during rut season.

We do disbud our goats (Nubians) and have not had any problems with scurs. We have watched quite a few videos on the subject and also went to "school" at OSU to learn how to do it properly. Goats with horns and goats without is a personal choice.

As far as peeing on themselves and other efforts of the bucks to make themselves desirable, my bucks have only done that once the girls start coming in season. 3 of my Nubian does came in season this year in June and we bred two of them.

We will not be breeding any more until November. I prefer early Spring babies, March or April. We had 4 kiddings this year in February and it was soooo cold. I don't want to do that again. Heat lamps make me nervous, I'll hang them if I have to next year, but I prefer not to. Also, I want to spread my kidding out over a larger time frame next year.

We haven't butchered any goats, but plan to put 2 wethers in the freezer in September this year. We will take them to the processor in town and have them done.

Hope this little bit of info helps you out.

Ok thanks, the main reason I was asking if NDs do or not pee on themselves more or less is because I was reading at Fias Co farms and they said the bucks pee on themselves so I thought it meant year round but y'all would show your bucks and they were so pretty and pee -free, lol.

Didn't think that a ND would taste different

OK, thanks for telling me about mixing scurs with horns. I love the look of horns, but our 2 kids have scurs (must have been the owners first time, I mean, she was a vet).

OH and BTW- this is CBL on my sisters acct. cause I dont know my password and I'm on my sisters acct, cause my sister is on the computer CBL is logged in, lol
