Overrun with beasties
Thanks again everyone! The bigger herd that I am thinking on in the spring will be Katahdin. I'm not too picky on breed for the friend to Precious- she is VERY lonely, and upset that the other goats aren't nice to her/she doesn't have a companion. I'm not trying to give human emotion to the goat, but going by body language and behavior, I can tell she is not happy on her own.
If I have a smaller sheep for her, I'm wondering if it would be reasonable to raise the goat minerals and keep the sheep minerals lower - so that the sheep can't reach the goat bucket? My goats have started looking so much better since I put free choice minerals, I would like to keep that if possible. My goats wont eat the minerals if I mix them with the feed.
Also, I do have the option of separating off another pasture if the sheep for Precious doesn't get along with the rest of the goat herd. Lucky for me, we have 5 acres right now that are ready to be fenced off for pasture, with another 45+ acres that need to be sectioned off for clearing.
Are there any other diseases that I should be worried about between the goats/sheep? I researched the sore mouth...WOW! I didn't realize that could get so bad.
