The crew

We attended a NPGA show last weekend, and Daughter did very well! No grands or reserves, but she wasn't expecting any, given that this is her first show, and her goats are a little out of shape. Believe it or not, she ended up taking the new baby! That little goat has come around so well! She was the only one in her age class, so she won by default, but the other two she brought took home two thirds, a fourth, and a fifth. Very respectable for her first show. :)

Her boy, Davey, placed third in two very large wether classes. I think he could have been placed higher, but he acted like a turd, and behavior is 1/4 of the judging card with wethers. LOL

As I said, her baby, Dove, won her age division, therefore qualifying to come back into the ring for grand and reserve. She didn't win either, since they usually take older does whose conformation is a little bit more solid. We were still very proud of her. She's come a very long way in a very short period of time. :)

Finally, was her 3 year old doe, Melody. She had a baby in December, so wasn't in the condition of the other does in her class. We knew that going in, but wanted to give her some experience anyway. Her breeders came up to us and told us how happy they were to see her back showing, so that really made Daughter happy. We all agreed that a little more muscling in her back end and a little bit more weight will make her much more competitive. She's a sweet doe, and I think she has a lot of potential. :)

I will also add that everyone there was amazingly friendly and helpful. Many people came up and asked Daughter if she was free in a certain class because they liked the way she showed her goats and needed someone to show one of theirs. She was only too happy to say yes! That gave her more experience, and also the chance to work with some of the top breeders. It was a really great weekend, and she's already making plans for the next show. LOL

Her fourth Pygmy, Violet, didn't make the trip with us this time, for two reasons. First, she's a bit of a slow grower, and is behind the other does her age. Second, we microchipped her and had to send in amended registration papers and they weren't back in time. She should be ready by fair, and maybe a NPGA show in the fall. :)

That's fantastic! Congrats for a very nice show. Great to hear that your daughter's showmanship skills are right on point. I love that baby doe and expect she will only get better!
