Spent New Year day wrenching, was supposed to have been transmission swap, but someone didn't expect me to actually show up so the shop was plugged up with equipment. Now I get to spend my Saturday finishing up doing the transmission swap AND putting new fuel tanks on the rig that wasn't on the list. The new mechanic, yeah he isn't one. I guess the owner is right, you got to start from somewhere. I don't see starting at 19 years old not knowing what a quarter inch drive ratchet as a good start. I didn't think it was possible, but the kid is smaller than I am.

Doesn't even know what a quarter inch ratchet drive is???????

:ep:th:ep:th:ep
Yeah he asked what’s the equivalent in metric since he couldn’t find that one :hu Still hasn’t managed to get tires on the rig all the time,
Previous customer who I built the house for asked me why to doors were 32 inches, I gave my answer and proceeded to argue me with Google results and when that wasn’t enough, proceeded to argue me he has 23 years in construction. So why did you ask me if you already know the answer? I have no ties to him so I tore into him. Might of went a little too far when he has to chase horses that got loose somehow this morning ;)

I know that interior doors are usually 32 in... 2/8 my ex used to say... and exterior are usually 36 inch or 3/0... But why??? Many older houses have narrower interior doors... and many built now are 36 interior for wheelchair and walker accessibility...
Cause he technically from my diagnosis is an early dementia patient. I can see the lights dim upstairs as the day goes on and the bewildered looks increase as the evening progresses on basic things to understand. Then at night the anger comes out, it’s always around 1700 hrs when we ever have knockdown drag outs that starts with his texts. Guess the years of cocaine and 4 DUI’s have caught up to him when he hit 50.

I wouldn't wish dementia on anyone, I've seen it up close.

It is amazing how few kids/yung men dont know what a too it. They know all about computer games, etc. not not tools or hw t use them.

When DS1 was 20 months old and toddling we were remodeling the kitchen in our first house. DH asked me for a slot head screwdriver and DS1 brought him one. We figured it was a fluke so DH asked for a Phillips head screwdriver. DS1 brought him that one. This was even though there were multiple slot and Phiullips head screwdrivers in the bag. He had fun testing DS1 on tools - hammer, wrench, etc. DS1 couldn't even talk but knew his tools. LOL
Fast forward 20 years when DD1 and DSIL1 bought their firt place. We went to visit them and help with (aka do it ourselves) some remodeling. DSIL1 said the hand rail on the stair case was loose and needed to be repaired. DH checked, got a wrench and tightened the lag bolt. Instant repair!

Although our grandsons 1 and 2 are not very good with tools, at college DGS1 was working on some sort of extracurricular project with the rest of the science nerds. They were doing some sort of garden clean up and he was the only one who knew how to use a rake and shovel. I think he was the only one who even knew what they were!:gig

These kids may get us to the moon, but . . . ?

The loss of Industrial Arts and Home Ec classes in high schools has been a big loss to our youth. Telling all kids in high school that they must go to college is ridiculous when a BA won't get you more than a part time job as McDonalds. And half of the kids in college are in remedial classes they should have passed in high school.
:th And don't get me started on "no consequences" for the fragile little school children that refuse to study, do homework or even show up for classes. :somad

Ummm, well that applies to kids in the junior college here. Taught there for 15 years, giving grades below C or sometimes even Cs we had to prove why we gave that grade. :somad
