I've seen a couple, that immediately postpartum, go plumb nuts for a few minutes if bothered. I usually let them rest a few minutes after giving birth before I even touch them or try to get them up.

(been a lot of years since I had any mature cow take a serious kick at me, but I haven't forgotten what it was like.)

Lucky she didn't lose her left eye. The hoof had just hit in this screen grab..you can see the white hoof where the woman's nose would be:
