You would never just feed apples, acorns and pigs are not stupid
At the hight of fruit season its a free for all in the woods for our pigs with a choice of peach, pear and apple freechoice and they are fed grains twice a day - with no probs
Same again at pumpkin time
Right on Royd :) One of the joys of pastured pork :)

We do not sell pork here so have never "finished" any pork. When our freezer is empty then out we go to find a pig the right size to refill it :) And ours also get to eat all the nuts they want in the Fall. However there are some folks that "finish" off their pigs with different foods - some use avocados, some peanuts etc. I am not sure how many days they do it for but they do say it changes the taste of the meat.

Who said pigs are stupid?

So if I were to let my pigs pick up windfalls in an orchard, would I need to fence off the trunks so they don't eat the bark, or is that only an issue with goats?

I have never seen a pig strip bark off trees. We have many many trees here that are all very much still alive. They do not rub the bark like goats & sheep!

We get broken bags of dog food from a local pet boutique. Pretty much nothing in it I wouldn't eat myself. As to organs, yes they are cooked to prevent spread of disease and parasites. Never had an issue with flavor.

Ehh, not to be a jerk, but here's a video of what's really in pet food.

Like I said, I'm not trying to aggravate anyone. I just want people to be aware..

Unless you mean these people make pet food small scale, and you've seen them use ingredients. I wouldn't know.
