We hava Racka

There is a line of hair Jacob’s in central Texas. We bought a Ram. After two years of breeding with our Painted Deserts we had nothing but scurs. Something just didn’t work. Could have been our particular genes. We sold the ram to a more knowledgeable shepherd who was in the process of breeding out fleece. Our Racka is throwing better horns by far but I do have two scurred lambs and two are iffy. I’m starting a new thread with questions about shearing.

What a disappointment! Jacob Sheep have all those horns and they don’t transfer to a cross breed.
Churro sheep probably wouldn’t mix genetics either.
It didn’t happen in my case. Maybe someone else could have better results. I still see an occasional third or fourth horn but they get knocked off once the boys start squaring off.

A scur is just a small, deformed horn. They are trouble if they grow back towards the head or towards an eye. This spring one ewe had a scur headed towards her left eye. She knocked it off before I had to do anything about it. The damage from knock offs is minimal, little bleeding and they heal quickly.

Here is my ewe lamb shedding. Another ram is patchy too. That last lamb’s fleece doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere.

That is what you were hoping for, right? The fleece shedding off and no shearing needed?

So... nice! :clap
Yes indeed. The hunting ranches turn Rackas out and I’m assuming (‘assume’ joke on deck) that the potentially horribly overgrown fleece gives that animal a one or two year shelf life. Or if they pen Rackas until there are potential clients they have to push them or clipper/shear. Taa daa Hair Rackas! Problem solved. :fl
