I was told that my goats need redcell. But I can only find the redcell for horses. Is this the same. How much and how often to give it?

It is the same product.

It is noted on the product label it is for horses, but it is a mineral supplement and can be given to goats.

Not to sheep as it contain copper.

I use a product called Nutri-Drench for Goats. Made for goats specifically, however, if your vet has recommended Red Cell, then that is what I'd use.

Thank you DonnaBelle. I saw the Nutri-Drench today and did not know what it was for. (did not have my glasses on:lol: so I could not read it.) The vet did not tell me to use it. I was told by someone to use it everyweek. :idunno So I was just curious and looking. :hide

I don't give it to my goats on a regular basis. If I had goats that were underweight, or had health issues then I would give it.

I know that in some parts of the US, goats don't get enough Selenium and people supplement that.

Mine get a little goat feed twice and day, and I make sure they have hay, fresh, clean loose minerals, and always FRESH water.

We still have some brouse left, mostly honeysuckle and some grass and dried leaves still on the small trees.

I have seen water buckets with green algea in them, disgusting. I am very picky about my goats having fresh clean water. And I make sure the buckets are clean. If the weather's cold, I bring them in the kitchen and scrub them once a week. If the weather's hot, every other day I scrub them out on the back porch. Now having said that, I must also say, I don't work outside my home and I don't have little children to take care of. I devote myself to my animals and my husband, not necessarily in that order. LOL.

A lot of people do use supplements such as "Fast Track" also. The does who are pregnant or milking might need additional nutrition too. I am always checking my goats, their eyelids, the way they are walking and behaving. I like to go out with them on a "goat walk" when weather permits.

I think the most one of the most valuable assets a person can have is a veternarian that know something about goats.

I would not give Red Cell every week on a regular basis. You could tip into toxicity that way. I only use it when there are issues such as anemia due to wormload (and other reasons).

I use loose minerals out all the time as the main source of minerals for my goats.
