Okay, my sweet precious little 9 month old Nigerian Dwarf Buckling has the teeniest tiniest little scurs...they are about an inch...more of nubs He absolutely hates anyone touching them, but I really don't think that they bother him. I think he is just kind of a spoiled brat and can get away with it. He is definitely babied!
But question: what should I do about them? We are going to be showing him this spring in shows so I would really like him to look a *bit* better. But I mean, these things are TINY! You can't even see them under his thick winter coat.
What can I do for him?

Thank you!

Just get a pair of needle nose pliers and twist them off. They'll come right off...then stay on top of it - or find someone to reburn them.

*I don't bother with reburning wee scurs, just make a point of twisting them off every time I trim hooves*

Poor little boy is gonna hate me!
But I really think it will make him feel better. :)
If it starts to bleed, do I just need to cauterize it? Or do I need to do something else for him?
Thanks!

Naw, it will barely bleed, you can just blot it with a paper towel or something. Really it happens so fast, too...they might yelp real quick, but they forget like immediately, especially if you have treats.

*well, he's 9 mos, they might bleed a bit more than a baby's would, but still, blot and it will be fine.

I have two with scurs, they are 8months old, probably 1/2 to 1 inch, on one, the scur came off and she was fine, did'nt know i could twist them off, I figured they would bled badly!! they are kinda rubbery. It's okay to twist them off??

I noticed my 2.5 yr old doe has scurs too - my other doe does not. Scurs mean that the original disbudding job wasn't completely successful, right? Hers only stick up about 1/4-1/2 inch or so, doesn't show beyond her hair. Do they continue to grow? If so it's probobly better that I twist them off now rather than let them grow any longer. Will they continue to grow back again? If so, how often do you find you have to twist them off?

Still a newbie.

Yep, they'll keep coming back. They BOTHER me, which is why I always remove them. If you're not showing, and they don't BOTHER you, LOL...there's no need to remove them. At your doe's age, they're not likely to get any bigger than what they are. I find myself removing scurs probably twice a year on does...more often on the boys.
