I have a LaMancha that I recently purchased. When I purchased her a month ago, she was giving approx. 1 pint of milk. After feeding her up and steady milking 1x per day, she is now giving me a half gallon of milk with our once a day milkings.

Last night when I was milking, she was very "stompy" and seemed tender on one side. There was no heat to the udder and no discharge or unusual milk coming from it. I'm wondering if I need to start milking 2x per day to help relieve the tenderness. I certainly don't need the milk from 2x per day milking and know it will only cause her to produce even more. *facepalm*

But at the same time, I don't want her to be uncomfortable. What would you do?

Mine get more “stompy” and antsy on the stand when they cycle...I could be way off base but something to consider...

I notice that sometimes my Lamancha doe's teats get a little "thicker" (swollen?) and kinda dry on the outside. I've been using bag balm on her teats after every milking and it has really helped soften them up and she seems to like it. The kids that nurse off her don't seem bothered by it in any way. I've seen them latch on right after I've milked and applied it.

How is the orifice on that teat?
I wonder if she had mastitis before and it is damaged and she may be borderline now. Do you see any cracks or slits?

No cracks or slits. Very supple too. I've been using Udder Balm on her after every milking. I think she may just be getting close to going into season. I've seen her start acting up a bit around the wethers and wagging that tail a bit more lately.

She might just be getting stompy to be a butt.
