Hubbs found five eggs my hen was hiding so she’s laying on schedule after all. Filled two containers ?30 gallon? To finish out my tomatoes. Apple trees leafed out sparingly except for one. It has green bark but no bud break. I wonder if it would wake up if I pruned it lightly?

Worked outside all morning, called it quits about 2pm, knew the sun was going to give me a headache if I pushed it.

While sitting inside, cooling off, this fascinating video popped up on my feed, demonstrating English "hedging". They used the hedgerows as fence between the cattle and the crops.

Coolest thing ever!

Hedging....they didn't own goats

They also used growing hedges in many countries. Plus, you see that ditchline along the hedge row? It's part of the "fence" structuring. Very interesting to see what used to be done 👍
I was going to quote Stairway to Heaven about a bustle in a hedgerow thinking it was a reference to mischievous hobbits. I googled it and boy did I find unexpected results :duc:duco_O

Hedging, I was thinking the same thing about goats. Also Texas Longhorns, they excelled in hiding in mesquite, mesquite has long thorns. That pretty hedge was for tame cattle. My fence rows were and the back field still is, an overgrown mess with barbed wire strands woven through it. It didn’t hold cattle in.
I can see the value in the hedging they were doing, it worked for that situation and probably wire and posts were terribly expensive.

Coffee is ready. Happy Easter every one.

Food prices are crazy
Will get worse as tariffs threaten. Suppliers already increasing & shrinkflation. A majority of our grains import, so flours will get hit, also sugar. Naturally coffee, chocolate, most spices, fruits & a large part of our veggies. Slowly resupply those categories beforehand.

Many of us raise a garden and some livestock. So eggs, meat, milk, cheese, veg & fruits aren't a huge issue if you just think about it. :idunno And it's not just tariffs. Major weather systems have destroyed many fruit & nut groves and much farmland is unusable now. Production is down. Supply & demand inflate prices.

It's a time when city folks will be in dire straights with supermarket shopping but, we country bumpkins will still eat like usual. :old:celebrate Now is a great time for barter! Pal up with your neighbors & friends.

"runs off to research the phrase Bustle in a hedgerow..."

Alternative to some interpretations:
"Bustle in your hedgerow" is a metaphorical phrase, often used in song lyrics, referring to a period of change, renewal, or disturbance. It can represent the awakening of nature, personal growth, or even a new romantic interest, much like a "spring cleaning" for the "May Queen".

In the long run, the tariffs should help the US start buying US again. Of course all will have to be ramped up because it just isn't there anymore due to cheap goods and labor elsewhere. And yeah - I've looked at made in USA things like sweatshirts and the $$$ is way out of my league. I get it. What I don't get, is the tariffs that were put on US goods in other countries and have been in place for a very long time. Things are a mess, and things can't change over night.
And I just placed an order from a small family owned company, who said starting May 1 they will be adding a $10 "tariff fee" to every order. I bet there will be alot out there doing the same or similar. Not a fan of that, I can see in some cases it is or will be needed, but I also see it being misused by others.
