I replaced the Sussex chicks' leg bands this evening. Now they can grow nice thick shanks without worry!

Cockerels raised the biggest fuss, of course.

DS made dinner today, his homemade Mac & cheese (from scratch), then we had a Pepperidge Farm lemon cake afterwards. He said he thought I'd like a home cooked dinner instead of some knick knack for a birthday present, and I agreed. I was sick on my actual birthday last week.

I'm official, 65.

Look who visited...and laid eggs all over the milkweed that's been sprouting where I planted carrots. I'm not weeding them, not now. One more generation to grow, and then fly South before frost.

She's on a tithonia, Mexican sunflower. Although they're annuals I don't plant them anymore, they volunteer.

That's a beautiful picture!

Tiger swallowtail. I am only posting to show how tall the tithonia has grown this year. Most of the time it tops 6' but gets knocked down by a rain storm before getting much above that. It's not rained in 3 weeks, so this one's above the gutter!
