Free food is great -- be sure they are only a block away to get it each day. Until you see it, it doesn't make an impression on how much room you need to store it all. Buy that extra frig.
Right. Plus don't forget about the extra freezer and the back up battery power for the solar just to avoid the electric bill going through the roof.:hide

I just started reading this thread. Did you ever get talented with your canning dreams?
I seriously wish but since my dad passed away my mom hasn't really been wanting to do anything to even be around me unless I go to her. I'm planning on asking a ton of questions from everyone here and all of the sister sites here. I'm still trying to get my garden done the way I want it to be and then obtain a pressure cooker. I am not even close to saying that I will not be successful in my choice to be self reliant and help my family get there just the same. Right now I'm just happy to have my chickens, dogs, ducks, garden, and rabbit. Of course my family is greatly appreciated and important to me as well. I'm considering culling all of the aggressive animals and just keeping the good ones.

I highly recommend the All American pressure canner. Only one still made in America. It screams QUALITY. I love mine and wished I had started years ago with one, but I didn’t know. They are not cheap, consider it an investment in feeding your family.

This is the one I have

I named my All American pressure canner The Beast. It is a fine precision machined tool for food preservation. I love it. I can’t pick it up when it is full, it’s too heavy. Do not ever use a pressure canner on a glass top stove. The weight and or the heat will break the glass. Good ol’ electric coil or a gas stove.

We will be happy to help you out on the details of canning.

Thank you. That means I have to go to the sons house because I only have a glass top stove. I wish I could have gotten the wood burning cook stove. It was listed for 150$. I couldn't get to Chico to get it but it was so beautiful. I think it had a griddle and 5/6 burners and I think 4 different ovens. It was white and so beautiful. I wanted it mostly to learn how to cook with it. Oh well there's no reason to cry over spilled milk.

All Americans are the best!! I have a 929 model I think. We save up on beans, deer, pork, beef, and even gar fish!

I have sheep and chickens!

My pressure canning endeavors are successful. The All American Pressure Canner is one of my greatest investments ever. We started about January of 2024. Please, if you ever get into pressure canning have any questions about it, send me a private message! Like I said in the previous comment, I pressure can deer, pork, beef, gar fish, and beans like great northerns, reds, navies, and chickpeas. I have also been water bath canning for several years.

Please make a thread about pressure canning, so we all can learn. My mom made some marmalade once, but sealed the jars with paraffin wax, did not can that I recall. I've never canned, thought I bought jars a few years ago, thinking I'd try.

Ah - yes I remember those days of using paraffin! My mom did that, but I didn't get to help so I picked flowers and dipped them in the paraffin when she was done. Of and my finger too - fun to have a finger mold.
