Many many moons ago I did a raised bed with the cinder blocks. It worked get. I did try planting marigolds in the holes but they didn't do very well. Sure would've looked pretty if they did.
Maybe portulaca or purslane? They grow low, and handle tough conditions.

That canna lily sure grew tall, 5-6 feet is usually their limit.

I saw a lynx spider on my elderberry bush, looked like it had young. When I took a picture what I didn't see was its dinner...

Morning glories are a curse... they get into the hayfields, the garden..... vines everywhere...
That's how I feel about purselane...lol

@fuzzi I have some I'll give you, every year, all summer long...😁

@Mini Horses The chickens do like it.
