An oxymel is a traditional elixir of vinegar (typically apple cider vinegar) and raw honey, often with complementary herbs.” Oxymels can be made using a variety of healing herbs. In this recipe, we are using elderberry.

Personally, I find just elderberry works...honey or a little sugar if the berries are especially tart.

What is elderberry oxymel?
"...The syrup/oxymel is basically elderberry syrup, cooked down and then strained. Add honey or sugar. If you want an oxymel then add some raw apple cider vinegar to taste. elderberries stop the virus from being able to replicate itself. Take an ounce or two every fifteen minutes until you feel better. I add 25% brandy to make it shelf stable but you can omit that and keep it refrigerated. ..."

Off kitty! What a triumph! Throw Caleb a party!
Not so fast on the party. Caleb had a kitty meltdown this afternoon. It was after I had run an hour's worth of errands and left Caleb in his crate, but still...sigh.

After the meltdown outside (lunging at several cats, not listening) I made Caleb sit in heel position next to my left leg, for several minutes. The kitty he startled (the mostly fearless Wisp) came down the tree, and approached, while Caleb sat, watched, and trembled, his body almost shook. He didn't "break", so I tilted his head so he would look into my eyes, and I quietly praised him.

You think he might simmer down after his neuter, scheduled for next Tuesday?

I make a half ACV, half honey for colds, stomach upset, diarrhea and food poisoning. I didn’t know it was called oxymel. Had no idea. Doesn’t sound very yummy in elderberry syrup.

Oh Caleb! I understand the desire to run the kitties, but you have to learn to get along.
