Thanks guys, you've given me lots to think about and plan for that I didn't think of. And thank you Baymule. Any other advice and stories pertaining to moving stock in the next little while, please feel free to dump it here. Experience is the best teacher and I really appreciate the opportunity...

11 hours, 694 miles, in approximately one month, so not quite summer. The usual plan is to drive all the way through and only stop at Walmarts as needed or for gas as the tank on the GMC canyon is very, very small. The kids will be watched by someone else so just us two. The horse trailer is...

Hmm, rather than make two trips with the goats when we move, I'm probably going to Bacchus apron (w/chest straps) the bucks and hope everyone is too traumatized to figure out how to get around them and split them up on arrival into their respective gendered stalls. Everyone is also out of rut...

    Farmerjan's journal - Weather

Gee, I hope he's coming home with something you guys have been really missing and not have just gone to visit Rocky Top for a while. If we see anyone running around here with "SON OF JAN" written on their shirt we'll send him home.

    Can I milk my doe

We always say 2-3 weeks of transition milk here. I wish I could convince them to like it at a few days. Picky, picky milk drinkers.

Took the family on a loooooong road trip on a chilly day to visit a herd called "Puddle Haven" in Junction City, KY to pickup the mini buckling (he's an Old Mountain Farm sired buck out of a doe by a Buck Creek sire so I'm optimistic about his quality, plus mom was super nice). Dan forced us to...

The journey into the abyss of no return

Sounds like you need to move to TX...it appears to be the gathering place of all BYHers (except for us, sorry guys).

No worries, I need my "restore my sanity time" but I can feel time slipping and we have good times with the rough and I saver the good.

Hey, rabbit starvation exists...you can't live on exclusively bunny. Even with diet supplementation, when my parents were dirt poor and we lived on rabbit and home made bread with an empty fridge, we all got tired and sick with anemia and eventually pneumonia and all the kids but one in the...

Gee, I don't know anything about that. I definitely don't escape 2x daily to get away from my crazy nuts (I mean beautiful little angels) and milk for an hour+ every day no matter how many goats I have to milk or not milk to restore my sanity. Work would pay better. ;)

It's agricultural. It's in the "agricultural reserve" where the county basically decided "we will not develop this, agriculture here" and put very dense development everywhere else. It's technically unincorporated and we can have stock animals and people have cattle there. That's one reason we...

Oh yeah. We found a house, did a call tour over zoom, decided to send him out for four days for an in person tour and commute test so he went out to see it and any close ranking houses, and he came back and we put in an offer and apparently in MD you put your offer in and work out the sale...

Thanks, me too! He went there and I didn't, so I'm moving blind! He's serious about moving the kids before the next school year starts. So there's a point in his direction...I hope.

I think I might need to look into a bottle calf or two next year to to feed out and use up extra milk and then take to slaughter probably as large veal when resources run low (is that a thing?). And a replacement cheese fridge since my old dying one died the rest of the way this year. No more...

The day Elsa and Galaxy left I was distracted and accidentally ran milk into my milker's ballast tank. One of the reasons I was building a milker for myself was that tank and how hard it is to clean if that happens. Well, it's clean now. And still wet after several days. It will probably be dry...

I'm going to just let him "Man" (and I'll just stay grumpy for a few more weeks just because). His boss says the three days a week they are required to come in he doesn't have to stay more than a few hours since they will be the only two on their team at the office (rest of team is in Malvern...

Thanks. In this case we can't get smaller with farm animals and still have travel distance to the office he's picked. I just don't understand why he isn't taking this off ramp NOW towards owning more of his own time vs staying at this job. I feel like a decade ago he would have made the leap...

Mark does not have an entrepreneur's spirit. Give him a software task, even a seemingly impossible task that no one has been able to do before, and if there's a way, he will find it and he will do it, even if he has to do the work of an entire team to get it working and he'll do it FAST, and in...

    What breed are these bunnies?

Not entirely. If I remember right the fur quality goes down in the first cross but can still be denser than normal and I think I see that on their feet and over all. But I'm not willing to die on that (or any) rabbit breed mix related hill....erm, ever. Anyone else have any guesses?
