    2025-09 BYC Update Thread :)

Herders often stayed close to their buffaloes when grazing in jungle, because buffaloes tend to get attached to their owners much more strongly than cattles do. It was because Indian jungles were infested with tigers, leopards, wolves, jackles and heynas (still are). And buffaloes actually saved...

Kipling was born in India but as child was sent back to England when his parents once heard him speaking Hindi (I hate British people) . He must have later on read about water buffaloes somewhere because what he is describing is clearly a swamp buffalo 'slaty blue' color, 'backward sweeping long...

I spend more time lurking and learning on byc than posting anything. As for large animals I have only water buffaloes and no seems to have them in here . Though I find many videos and shorts about them originating from US. I even learned a poem 'everyone got a water buffalo Mine is fast and...

Why You Should Add Llamas To Your Backyard Herd

I didn't know you can milk llamas and that they can pull carts. I always thought them as a curiosity on the farm. I know someone who has imported them in Nepal. I don't know how they will perform in lowland and swampy areas. Funnily enough buffaloes are also very protective of their farmmates...

    An Introduction to Buffaloes

I assume because Indiana is now a bastion of Republicanism, crazy that you had a democratic senator up until 2019. I have never been to Indiana, but I have been to neighboring Ohio. I loved it's rich agricultural tradition and Amish community. Although as a Catholic I was rather perplexed to...

    Riding Cows

Yeah, Water Buffaloes are love bugs who will never harm their owners. They are like dogs only more mischievous and less obedient, but equally loyal. I am from India.

    Baymule’s Journal

I am both happy and sad for you. You and your husband were such a good couple. You were together for 25 years and that will always stay with you. My grandparents were married for 50 years and then my grandfather died in 2015 and my grandmother was totally inconsolable, but with time and our care...

    Riding Cows

I have never seen anyone riding a cow or an ox, but we rode buffaloes as children from and to the pastures. I guess the cows are just too jumpy and buffaloes never seem to mind.

Even though I don't have any experience with llamas, but your experience is not uncommon. Some buffaloes are known to display strong dislike for certain individuals or group of individuals. Two of my buffaloes are only friendly with five people my wife, my grandmother, my father, my farmhand and...

You can always eat the unruly members of the farm. In my opinion the worst behaving animals taste best. I have eaten a lot of mean roosters. Cock au vin is hell of a recipe and the best French contribution to the art of cooking. Farm vets are indeed in short supply.

It's true for India too, but I was talking about USA really. Btw cattle are eaten in India, majority of them are killed and eaten illegally and India is second largest beef exporter. It's just that people who don't eat cattle, eat carabeef and it tastes good and is much healthier.

I am not 100% sure, but I read somewhere that mozzarella has become the number one consumed cheese in the United States. If that's anything to go by buffaloes are a better option than cows. Paneer, bocconcini, feta, brie and many other cheeses are made using buffalo milk. Paneer, ghee...
