I need to pick up more aquarium pea gravel. It needs to be above the surface so the bees can safely drink. The same with the waterfall, gave them platforms. We also need to buy some 3/4" cedar to finish the box. We didn't have any left in our scrap pile.
A heart! I'm sure these rocks will turn green, but I think they're pretty now.
It's ready for landscaping.
These are rocks we've collected over the years. We've used many in our yard. There are a few Montana river rocks that we purchased. Need to tackle the tumbleweeds.
Flat Montana rock we collected many years ago. These will go on the top pond edge. We've also used a lot of these in our yard. These are the last of this kind. Told hubs we need to go to Montana and get some more! Such beautiful colors.
In for a break, my upper back can only handle so much. Went through 3 hives. Still have 2 we're going to look at today. We're not going to get into our hives as often this year. Maybe every two weeks or once a month, not sure if that's too risky? Split the inspections, I can't do them all in the same day. I will however check sooner if something needs to be watched or seems off.
I'm renaming my hives. Front to back
Hive #2 Cordovan
Well, we saw larvae in the newly hatched Cordovan hive and a few eggs. She's not a laying machine and still looks kind of skinny to me. We'll check again in 2 weeks and see what's happening. There are still a lot of bees and we're going to add another honey super today. The super was very heavy.
Hive #1 Carniolan
She was released and is laying eggs, but...I guess I missed something. We found a ton of queen cells on a frame in the top deep. I don't know why they did that. Their queen was only gone for 24hrs. It looks like the queen is destroying them, so I will let them do their thing and see what it looks like in two weeks. We are going to add a super.
Hive #4 Buckfast
Still very small, but hopefully the capped brood we gave them will soon hatch.
Saw eggs, honestly can't remember if I saw larvae. My brain...lol
Need to add 1:1
Next to check.
Hive #5 Carniolan: Demarre
See if we need to split again.
Resource #2 Italian Hybrid:
Check for eggs.
Hive #3: Cordovan
We aren't going to inspect today. I'm pretty sure everything is good there.
Resource #1 Carniolan is in the process of re-queening. So I will give that a bit longer before going in.
Well, I don't know if we averted a swarm from happening or not. Found a capped queen cell in Hive #5: Carniolan, Demarre. We also finally found the queen and marked her. It's a bit messy but hopefully it works okay and she'll be easier to spot. Shifted frames around again and destroyed the queen cell. We're thinking if they do it again, we'll just let them re-queen, she's been a good queen. She's an older queen. Getting some nourishment.
Pulled drawn mediums out of the freezer. Letting them warm up and then we'll add to Hives 1 & 2.
Resource #2 Italian Hybrid. We found eggs and closed it up. Exciting and so much easier...lol
