My broody hens are the best. Sure, you miss their eggs for 3-4 months but in return are more future layers 🤣
At least I don't miss their eggs because they are bantams so we don't need the eggs 😃

Here is a pics of my chicks

This morning when I went out to the coop I saw the babies running in and out of the run they were going through the little squares on the bottom and then running back in so I put boards on the bottom and I thought that would be enough to keep them in the run but later I went out and the yellow chick was outside the run cheeping and all the boards were still in place so I don't know how it got out. I put wire around the bottom but the wire only covered half the run and the other half just has boards so when I checked tonight I don't know how many chicks there are I looked under my Red hen and she had her chick but I don't know if the leghorn had any under her because she wouldn't let me reach under her. So I really hope that all 3 babies are in with their mamas tonight

They're little escape artists. I used hardware cloth around both of my brooders but the chicks still managed to get out.

This morning we finished putting the wire all around the coop.

When i got home from volleyball practice and had to go close a gate in case the calves got out and I heard really loud cheeping coming from the coop so I went over and the yellow chick was running around outside the run trying to find a way back in. So I slipped through the fence and while I was going through the fence our Beagle named Skippy found the chick I yelled at him to leave it alone but he chased it around a bit and then Skippy finally ran away barking like he was chasing something and I thought it was my chick but then I realized that a chick couldn't run that far away when it is that little so I went back to the coop and heard cheeping I saw the chick under the coop so I waited for it to go out and I grabbed it and put it back with its mama. I am so glad I didnt put a board to block the way under the coop the way I did to the red coop because Skippy kept digging under it. If I did put the board there Skippy would have got the chick. I put gravel around the run so I don't think that the chicks can escape anymore.

The other 2 brown chicks are good little babies and stay with their mamas but that little yellow baby is finding ways to escape that i didnt think a chick could even get out of and then it runs around outside the run cheeping until someone puts it back in.

This afternoon we vaccinated the calves.
Today was my first time giving a shot. I gave a shot to my calf that looks like a holstein.
We sorted the calves the 4 that we are keeping went in the pen where the goats were and the 6 we are selling went back to the pasture they came from. I think we are selling the 6 calves on Thursday.
